Based on the agreement between King Salman International University’s College of Pharmacy and Cleopatra Hospitals Group, the clinical training for students took place at Al Shorouk Hospital –Al Mohandeseen Branch, which is part of the Cleopatra group. The training ran for five days, from Sunday to Thursday, September 8-12, 2024.
The training included a mix of theory and hands-on practice, which helped students learn more about patient care and the important role of clinical pharmacists. This experience allowed students to apply their theoretical knowledge, improving their skills and boosting their confidence for future roles as clinical pharmacists.
During the training, students visited the oncology department to learn about treatment protocols and how to care for cancer patients, including managing side effects. They also visited the dialysis units and intensive care unit to understand how to handle patient records. Students encountered cases of urinary tract infections and pneumonia and toured the hospital pharmacy.
Overall, the training gave students a chance to apply what they’ve learned in a real clinical setting, giving them a better understanding of both the theory and practice of clinical pharmacy. The students found the experience very valuable and reported that it was extremely beneficial.
