Honoring KSIU Students for Participating at “Aware and Ready” Initiative
At the closing ceremony of the “Strengthening Egypt’s Family Planning Program” competition, held on September 10, 2024, at the Semiramis Hotel, student Mariam Mahmoud Jaber from the College of Pharmacy was honored as part of the “Aware and Ready” initiative team for their outstanding performance. They were among the top 6 teams in the competition.
The competition is supported by the National Population Council, the Supreme Council of Universities, and several international organizations such as USAID, John Snow Inc., and the Think Tank for Development Solutions. The event was attended by notable figures, including Prof. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, and Dr. Abla El Alfy, Deputy Minister of Health and Population and Chair of the National Population Council.
The “Aware and Ready” initiative aims to raise awareness about reproductive health and family planning to address the growing population. It targets individuals aged 15 to 35, providing them with accurate and updated information to make informed decisions.
The team faced significant challenges, including cultural traditions that hindered information gathering and awareness efforts. They overcame these obstacles by gaining the trust of the local community, involving medical youth, using official documents from overseeing bodies, and providing accurate information in collaboration with experts.
King Salman International University played a key role in supporting the initiative by offering logistical and technical support to its students. The university administration wishes its students continued success and achievement.
