KSIU Petroleum Chemistry Students Explore Natural Resources and Environmental Practices in South Sinai

At King Salman International University, we continuously strive to integrate theoretical learning with practical application, staying up-to-date with industry trends to prepare our students for success in their professional careers while also promoting environmental awareness.

As part of their curriculum, third-year Petroleum Chemistry students recently embarked on a four-day scientific trip to explore the natural resources and environmental practices in South Sinai. The trip offered students valuable hands-on experience, where they visited various sites to better understand the region’s resources and their industrial applications.

On the first day, students visited the Sinai Manganese Factory to learn about the extraction processes of manganese ore and the production of ferrosilicon manganese alloy used in several industries.

The second day took the students to Ras Mohammed Nature Reserve, where they studied Miocene rocks and discovered ancient coral reefs as well as mangrove plants, which play an important role in environmental purification and climate regulation.

On the third day, the group traveled to Dahab to explore ancient deltas and the volcanic and metamorphic rocks located along the Gulf of Aqaba. On the final day, students visited the Suez Oil Company (SOCO) in Abu Redis, where they learned about the stages of crude oil extraction from offshore platforms and the chemical processes involved in refining and purifying petroleum.

This field trip enhanced the students’ understanding of South Sinai’s natural resources and their applications, while emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation in the industrial processes.
