KSIU Field of Architecture Organizes Field Visit to Heritage Buildings in Khedivial Cairo
In line with King Salman International University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen practical learning and connect academic knowledge with real-world professional experience, the field of Architecture organized a field visit to a selection of heritage buildings in the Khedivial Cairo district. The visit comes within the framework of university-led activities aimed at enhancing student capabilities and contributing to community development.
The tour included three notable heritage buildings, most prominently the Tamara Building, which recently received the Grand Award for Best Practices in Urban and Architectural Heritage Preservation in 2025, presented by the National Organization for Urban Harmony.
Throughout the visit, students were introduced to the architectural and technical aspects of adaptive reuse projects, learning how heritage buildings can be revitalized through innovative design strategies that reintegrate them into the contemporary urban landscape. The visit was conducted as part of the course on Heritage Conservation Projects and Egyptian Art and Architecture in the 20th Century.
This field experience aligns with the university’s broader vision of merging academic study with applied learning, particularly through community-based projects aimed at the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings in South Sinai — reflecting KSIU’s role in supporting national efforts to safeguard and revive Egypt’s cultural and architectural legacy.
The visit aims to empower students with the skills necessary to analyze architectural styles, understand urban context, and appreciate the historical influences that shaped Egyptian architecture in the 20th century. It also contributes to building their capabilities in developing sustainable and culturally grounded architectural solutions.
Through initiatives like this, KSIU reaffirms its commitment to preparing a new generation of creative architects equipped to apply academic knowledge in service of society, while contributing to the development of Egypt’s built environment in alignment with Egypt Vision 2030 and the national sustainable development strategy.
