KSIU Architecture Students Visit “The Great Transfiguration” Project in Saint Catherine

The Faculty of Architecture organized a field visit for its students to the “Great Transfiguration” project in Saint Catherine, as part of its commitment to integrating academic study with practical experience and connecting theoretical concepts with national projects on the ground.

The visit provided students with direct exposure to one of Egypt’s most distinctive developmental and tourism projects. Students received detailed briefings from project consultants and managers on design concepts and implementation strategies, enhancing their understanding of sustainable architecture in real-world environments.

The project stands as a model for the integration of architecture with nature, as its designs are based on embedding structures within the mountainous landscape using local materials and nature-inspired colors, preserving the visual identity and spiritual essence of the area, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The field tour also included visits to key project components such as the eco-lodge, visitor center, and spiritual complex. Students gained insights into engineering challenges related to construction in mountainous terrain, including soil treatment techniques, advanced foundation systems, and flood risk mitigation measures.

This visit reflects KSIU’s approach to practice-based learning, providing students with valuable field experiences that prepare them to innovate and effectively address real-world challenges, in line with labor market demands and future career readiness.
