Biography

Dr. Tantawy earned his Ph.D. from Complutense University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain and is currently an Assistant Professor of Plant Production at the Faculty of Desert agriculture, King Salman International University (KSIU), with nineteen years of teaching experience.

Before joining KSIU, Dr. Tantawy worked as a Teaching assistant at Ornamental Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University (2005 – 2008). Then, he worked as an Assistant lecturer at the Ornamental Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University (2008 – 2010). He was a Postgraduate Researcher at Pollen Biotechnology Lab in the Department of Environmental Biology, Biological Research Center (CIB), National Spanish Research Center (CSIC), Madrid, Spain (2010-2015). He worked as an Assistant Professor in two places, at Flower Research Institute (FRI), Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS), Kunming, China in 2019. Since 2016, he has worked as an Assistant Professor at Ornamental Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University.

Dr. Tantawy current research interests are focused on breeding in ornamental plants through in vitro micropropagation, characterization and quantification patterns of the key factors affecting in somatic and microspore embryogenesis, production of some pharmacological components like antioxidants and essential oils in horticultural plants, and evaluation of biotic, abiotic stress gene expression levels and developing medicinal plant production under stress treatments.
