King Salman International University (KSIU) is dedicated to eradicating poverty by providing scholarships and financial aid to students from low-income backgrounds. The university also partners with local organizations to support community development projects that aim to improve living conditions and economic opportunities. KSIU publishes yearly report about SDG 1; current report is given here.

Eradicating Poverty in all its forms remains one of the challenges of King Salman International University. Within the framework of implementing KSIU plan to eliminate Poverty and help its students and the local community, this is done through:

Scientific research:

  • The number of research papers in which researchers from King Salman International University participated and published in 2023 amounted to 185 research papers published in peer-reviewed and indexed journals.

  • The university is working to encourage researchers to publish internationally in this regard and to find applied solutions that help achieve sustainability.

University programs to fight poverty:

 
  • The university contributes to reducing and eliminating Poverty by employing about 311 employees, 151 faculty members, and 100 auxiliary staff members, and granting them incentives to cover the shortage and rising prices.

  • King Salman International University grants discounts on tuition fees ranging from 10% to 100% for students who are unable to pay, depending on their family’s social status. 633 students have benefited from various scholarships in various fields and programs offered by the university during the academic year 2023-2024.

  • Providing health and medical care to students in KSIU clinics.

  • King Salman International University provides university housing to host male and female students who live in distant governorates, but the university sets several conditions for a student to join.

  • Services provided include housing, food services, health and psychological care, and entertainment, creating a suitable environment for studying. Every year, the university works to maintain university housing and raise service levels to meet students’ needs.

  • Conducting awareness seminars on early detection of stromal tumors, with free periodic examinations provided.

  • Organizing a workshop on supporting and saving lives in medical emergencies.

  • Awareness campaign about diabetes entitled (Your habits change your life – your examination now means safety).

  • Participation in an awareness campaign for patients with heart muscle weakness, in cooperation with the General Authority for Health Care.

  • Disbursement of social grants to needy students.

Community programs to fight poverty:

 

King Salman International University works to direct its material and human capabilities to contribute to serving the people of South Sinai Governorate. The university participated in the following initiatives, convoys, and protocols:

  • Cooperation Protocol with the General Authority for Health Care.

  • Organizing an awareness day to spread the culture of infection control and its applications in the College of Dentistry among students, patients, and university staff.

  • The university receives visits from schools at the primary, preparatory, and secondary levels to explore educational methods, classrooms, laboratories, and student services such as playgrounds and swimming pools.

  • The university dental clinic provides free treatment, including examination, diagnosis, surgery, and installations under the supervision of a specialized medical team.

  • King Salman International University organizes the Employment and Training Forum to provide job opportunities for its students with the participation of major leading companies.

  • As part of community communication, second-level students of the English Translation Program at the university’s Sharm El-Sheikh branch organized workshops on the concept of “stereotype and bias” and their societal impact.

  • Participating in the activities of World Diabetes Awareness Day.

  • Cooperation protocol between King Salman University and the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development.

  • Participating in sponsoring the International Conference of the Patent Liaison Office in the fields of agriculture and food security.
