King Salman International University (KSIU) is committed to reducing inequality by ensuring that all students have access to the same resources and opportunities. The university offers support services for marginalized groups and promotes an inclusive campus culture. KSIU publishes yearly reports about SDG 10; the current report is given here.
Global Context on Reducing Inequality
The international community has made significant strides in lifting people out of poverty. However, the most vulnerable countries—such as the least developed countries, landlocked developing countries, and small island developing States—are still struggling to reduce poverty.
Despite progress, inequality persists, with wide disparities in access to health, education, and other productive assets.
Income inequality between countries may be reducing, but inequality within countries is increasing.
Economic growth alone is insufficient to reduce poverty unless it is inclusive and incorporates the three dimensions of sustainable development:
Economic
Social
Environmental
To address these disparities, comprehensive policies are recommended, with special attention to the needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups.
University Policy to Achieve the Goal
Establishing the Academic Guidance Unit in university colleges to support students through the role of academic advisors and the development of an academic guidance system.
Encouraging students with exceptional abilities to participate in university activities.
Equipping university buildings with ramps and elevators to facilitate mobility for members with disabilities.
Offering social grants to deserving students.
Providing support for incoming students to ensure equal opportunities.
Organizing and participating in local and international seminars and conferences to spread awareness among all segments of society.
